I offer a full range of dental treatments, and I am committed to a preventative approach, which will ensure you require less treatment in the long run.

Preventive Dentistry

Preventive dentistry is the modern way of helping you keep a healthy mouth. It helps you to keep your teeth, and means you need to have less dental treatment.

The two main causes of tooth loss are decay and gum disease. The better you prevent or deal with these two problems, the more chance you will have of keeping your teeth for life. Examples of preventive tretments are:

  1. Removal of  all plaque and tartar from your teeth. This is often called a ‘scale and polish'.
  2. Oral Hygiene Instructions(OHI), Tooth Brush Instructions( TBI)
  3. Dietary Advice
  4. Application of Flouride Varnish
  5. Application of sealants. A sealant is a protective plastic coating, which is applied to the biting surfaces of the back teeth. The sealant forms a hard shield that keeps food and bacteria from getting into the tiny grooves in the teeth and causing decay.

Restorative Dentistry

Tooth restorations are the various ways your dentist can replace missing teeth or repair missing parts of the tooth structure. Tooth structure can be missing due to decay, deterioration of a previously placed restoration, or fracture of a tooth. Examples of restorations include the following:

  1. Fillings are the most common type of dental restoration. Teeth can be filled with silver amalgam, or tooth-colored plastic materials called composite resin fillings.
  2. Crowns: A crown is an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth. A crown is sometimes known as a 'cap'. Types of crown available are:  Metal -alloy crowns, Gold-alloy crowns, Porcelain-bonded crowns, All-ceramic crowns, Zirconia crowns.
  3. Dentures are a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Complete dentures replace all the teeth; partial dentures are considered when some natural teeth remain and are retained by metal clasps attached to the natural teeth. Different types of denture are available (acrylic, chrome metal based, valplast)
  4. Implants: A dental implant is used to support one or more false teeth. It is a titanium screw that can replace the root of a tooth when it fails. Just like a tooth root, it is placed into the jawbone.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment (also called ‘endodontics') is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth (called the ‘pulp') is infected through decay or injury. You may not feel any pain in the early stages of the infection.

In some cases your tooth could darken in colour, which may mean that the nerve of the tooth has died (or is dying). This would need root canal treatment.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Dentistry is no longer just a case of filling and taking out teeth. Nowadays many people turn to cosmetic dentistry, or ‘aesthetic dentistry', as a way of improving their appearance. They do this in the same way they might use cosmetic surgery or even a new hairstyle. The treatments can be used to straighten, lighten, reshape and repair teeth. Cosmetic treatments include veneers, crowns, bridges, tooth-coloured fillings, implants and tooth whitening.
